World Wide Prevalence of Periodontal Disease
November 25, 2014
The International and American Associations of Dental Research ( IADR/AADR) have published a paper titled ” Global Burden of Periodontitis: A Systemic Review and Meta-Regression”. The purpose of this study was to consolidate all epidemiological data about severe periodontitis, and to generate internally consistent prevalence and incidence estimates for all countries, 20 age groups and both sexes for 1990 and 2010. In 2010, severe periodontitis was the sixth most prevalent condition in the world affecting 743 million people worldwide. This number was static between 1990 and 2010. The study concluded that prevalence increased gradually with age showing a steep increase between the 3rd and 4th decades of life with a peak at age 38. Conclusion: The results underscore the health-care burden of this prevalent disease on the worlds population.

Baking Soda Helps Dental DiseaseElevates PH and Reduces Inflamation
May 28, 2014
Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate) has long been suggested for tooth brushing and as a tooth whitener. Baking soda dates back to ancient Egypt. The ability of baking soda to neutralize acids makes it an inexpensive remedy for full body issues as well as the prevention of dental disease. Ten patients ranging in age from 20-60 years old participated in the study involving tooth brushing with baking soda. At baseline they were screened for hypertension, salivary flow, salivary PH, gingival tissue appearance and bleeding.
They were instructed to brush daily with baking soda instead of tooth paste. They were to put a half a teaspoon of baking soda into their hand, wet the tooth brush with water and brush their teeth with it. They were also asked to add a teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water to make a mouth rinse. After rinsing, they were to instructed to spit out the rinse and not rinse. They were given PH strips and asked to record the PH of their saliva upon waking each morning and record the results.
Patients returned 1-2 weeks later. The group showed reduced PH scores over the test period and also reduced bleeding and signs of gingivitis. Patients reported their mouths felt cleaner.
Dr. Goldstein helps patients with their oral care by providing basic cleanings, treatment for periodontal disease and home care instruction. Dr. Goldstein serves patients from Randolph, Mendham, Chester, Rockaway, Morristown and surrounding areas.
Randolph Dental Patient Review
March 28, 2014
A few years ago I received a promotional mailing from Dr. Goldstein offering a basic cleaning and exam. I was in the market for a new dentist and decided to give his practice a try. My first visit was a very positive experience, and all visits since then have been the same.
Dr. Goldstein addressed and corrected one of my initial problems, grinding my teeth while I slept, in minutes using a technique called equilibration. He explained the grinding was the result of my teeth trying to correct my bite. Using equilibration, he painlessly adjusted the surfaces of specific teeth, and the grinding stopped immediately.
Dr. Goldstein and his staff at Randolph Dental are professional, friendly, and accommodating. Time is precious to me, and Dr. Goldstein maintains a schedule that provides a comfortable, individualized experience. Once I arrive at his office, I am seated for my appointment within 10 minutes. During my visits I receive constructive feedback regarding my dental hygiene. When extensive procedures are needed, Dr. Goldstein develops a plan of what is required that is beneficial to my dental health, my schedule, and my budget.

New Jersey Dentist Continues his Commitment to ‘Giving Back’
Dr. Glen Goldstein of Randolph Dental Care Has Recently Returned From His Fourth Consecutive Volunteer Mission Trip with Remote Area Medical
Randolph, NJ- New Jersey Dentist Glen M Goldstein DMD DIOCI recently returned from Knoxville, TN where he volunteered his dental services and expertise on a Remote Area Medical® (RAM) mission. This marks the fourth year in a row Dr. Goldstein has teamed with other RAM volunteers to provide complimentary dental services for patients who can either not afford health care or do not have access to proper medical and dental facilities. Joining him on this mission for the first time were his son’s Zachary and Gregory.
During his time there Dr. Goldstein saw numerous patients and performed 89 extractions. His sons were busy assisting other doctors while they performed extractions and fillings.
Following his return Dr. Goldstein spoke highly of his overall experience: “Dr. Goldstein was pleased to tell us he and his team saw about 800 patients, many of whom slept in their cars the night before in order to be first in line on Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. In total almost 750 extractions, 128 fillings and 160 cleanings were done. He also expressed his gratitude for the number of compliments he received about how friendly he was while providing care, as well as how appreciative patients were that he and his sons flew in from NJ to help them out.” If not for the generosity of all volunteers these patients have virtually no access to care and many are walking around with life threatening infections. His two sons were equally moved by the genuine appreciation the patients had for them.
Dr. Goldstein plans to continue actively volunteering in communities both inside and outside of New Jersey. This coming November RAM will be doing a 4 day mission at the Jacob Javits Convention center in conjunction with the Greater NY Dental Meeting. Dr. Goldstein plans on being there..
