If you are looking to fix your chips, stains, or minor gaps, then you may wonder what treatment would be right. Whitening can get rid of the discoloration, and cosmetic bonding can repair minor damage. However, one service that can fix all these flaws at once is dental veneers! Your dentist will bond a durable shell to the front of your teeth, but how do they feel like? Keep reading to learn what you can expect.

What Does Getting Veneers Feel Like?

Generally, it takes two appointments to get veneers. The first visit will be preparing the teeth that are being treated. A small amount of your enamel will have to be removed. This will help your results sit flush and seamless with the rest of your smile. Your dentist will numb your mouth before starting this. That way, you shouldn’t feel much, if any, discomfort. You are likely to experience some pressure.

Afterward, you will need impressions taken. It’ll get sent to a dental lab where a skilled artisan crafts each permanent veneer out of a high-quality material. It takes about two weeks to perfect them, so you’ll need to wear temporary shells in the meantime. These will help protect your teeth and preview your results. They will look similar but may feel a bit bulky. Having them should still be comfortable, nevertheless.

How Do Permanent Veneers Feel After Placement?

Once your dentist gets your final set back, you’ll need to get them bonded on. Immediately after the appointment, you’ll be able to show off your refreshed smile! You should expect to have some minor sensitivity, which is entirely normal. It’ll go away more each day, but you should call your dentist if it’s worsening. Once that’s all done, then you’ll be able to enjoy a comfortable grin that should feel natural.

If you got this treatment to change the shape of your teeth, then you may notice a difference. Your mouth will need to get adjusted to them, so give yourself grace if your tongue bumps into them! It’ll take a couple of weeks to get fully used to them, but they will fit in seamlessly.

While you might’ve imagined veneers would feel weird, take comfort knowing they shouldn’t! You’ll have a refreshed smile that is just like normal. In fact, many people who got them don’t notice them when eating or talking. Rather, they just enjoy the confidence that often comes with this service.
